New guidance on single-use plastic ban

Defra publish new guidance in preparation for new October ban.

Back on January 14th, Thérèse Coffey announced that a variety of single-use plastic will be banned in England from October 1st. Now, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has provided guidance for businesses in the run up to the changes.

When the new ban comes into place, businesses in England will no longer be able to sell their items in single-use plastic packaging for both online and over the counter sales. As part of their guidance, Defra stated the exemptions including if you're supplying the goods to another business or if the food would need extra preparation before it's eaten, such as microwaving or toasting. If businesses don't comply, they could face a fine and have to cover the costs of the investigation.

Ask the Experts: Jake

Dealing with asbestos on your site!

Asbestos can be difficult to deal with and, if it's not dealt with quickly and safely, it can become incredibly dangerous. That's why we sat down with Jake, one of our waste experts to find out exactly what you should do if you find asbestos on your site.

His advice for dealing with asbestos? Get in touch with an expert as soon as you can: "If people find asbestos on their site, they should get in touch with an expert straight away. The longer it’s left, the more likely it is to be harmful for people. You should never try to remove asbestos yourself. Asbestos should only be removed by trained professionals and specialists."
