How we turned waste wood into a new product

Your waste collection isn’t the end of your waste wood’s journey. By working with our network of approved suppliers, we’ve been able to turn waste wood into a brand-new product that can work as a more sustainable option to fossil fuels.
What’s the process?
Wood is collected from different manufacturers and taken to a facility to be recycled. This wood is usually timber of MDF, with the process being slightly different from each.
Timber
For timber wood, the wood is dried to remove any moisture from the waste wood. After this, it is shredded into smaller pieces. This process turns the material into dust which is then used to create pellets. During this process, heat is applied to the product which causes lignin. This works as a glue which holds all the compressed particles together.
MDF
The MDF wood that is collected goes through a slightly different process. Once the wood has been collected, it is shredded and used for grow bags. This product is then used for composting and is more environmentally friendly than harvesting peat, but just as nutritious.
What are the wood pellets used for?
The pellets then have multiple different possibilities for their usage. They can be used for anything from cat litter to power pellets used in back boilers to create heat. Using the wood pellets created from waste wood for heat is a more efficient and sustainable source of energy. This is because the emissions from burning them is less than using fossil fuel burners. Therefore, they can be used as a low carbon alternative to fossil fuels, such as coal.
What are the benefits of using waste wood to create pellets?
Turning waste wood into pellets is an environmentally friendly solution to the waste created in manufacturing. It’s a way to protect valuable resources as no trees need to be cut down to create the wood pellets. If they’re stored properly away from any moisture and humidity, the wood pellets can last forever, so we don’t have to rely on finding more resources. Because of its qualities, waste wood is six times cheaper to use for pellets than standard wood. So, not only is it more eco-friendly to reuse the material, but it’s also cost effective too.
