Sustainability at Glastonbury

Glastonbury leads the way for more sustainable festivals!

If you turned on your TV or checked social media last weekend, you probably caught some of the Glastonbury coverage. The festival made changes this year to become more sustainable and the clean up operation is underway!

The festival announced last week that it would be powered completely by "fossil fuel free" electricity or by a combination of solar panels and battery storage. One of its stages was even fully powered by biofuel made from waste cooking oil

As part of its post-festival clean up operation, 1,000 litter pickers are working their way through the site. Pictures showing the aftermath of the event sparked questions online about the sustainability of the event. But, one litter picker told the Bristol Post "I came down this morning and thought ‘this doesn’t look bad’ considering there were about a quarter of a million people here”. The festival banned single-use plastic in 2019 and added disposable vapes to their 'do not bring' list.

ASK THE EXPERTS

Ask the Experts: Lydia

Everything you need to know about site clearances!

Have you had a large scale refurbishment or just finished a construction? Then you'll probably need a site clearance to get everything back in order. But what can you expect to happen when you undergo a site clearance? We sat down with Lydia, one of our waste experts, to find out everything you need to know about site clearances!

We asked Lydia why site clearances are so important: "They prevent any risk of your waste being fly tipped and traced back to you. You’re also keeping your site safe too. There’s so many health and safety risks with waste lying around your site. You could have hazardous materials on site, such as oils and paints, which can be incredibly dangerous if they’re not dealt with properly."

To find out more about how you can keep your site safe, check out what Lydia had to say in our blog!
