What a shock!

The UK generated second largest amount of electrical waste in 2022

A new study from USwitch has revealed the countries which produced the most electrical waste in 2022. The study found that Norway produced the most e-waste with 26kg per person with the UK coming second, producing 23.9kg of electrical waste per person.

Despite being at the top of the list, USwitch says that Norway has taken steps to manage its high levels of e-waste through 'take back' schemes. Their research also suggests that the UK will overtake Norway to become the biggest contributor to electrical waste by 2024, estimating that the UK will produce just under 55,000 tonnes of e-waste a year by 2030. They also highlighted that the amount of IT and telecoms e-waste in the UK has doubled between 2008 and 2022, with an estimated around 38,000 tonnes produced in the previous year.
