New plea to encourage vape recycling

Local council urges residents to recycle their used vapes.

Gateshead council have issued a new plea, urging residents to take their used vapes to their local Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC). This comes after the council recorded a series of incidents regarding vape disposal.

The council warned residents about the "dangers" of not recycling used vapes properly and pointed them in the direction of their HWRCs that have designated bins for vapes. According to Gateshead council, they're having to spend an increasing amount of money on collecting disposable vapes that have been thrown on the floor. There are also concerns about the batteries inside the vapes causing a potential safety hazard for their collection teams.

We spoke to BBC Radio Nottingham recently about disposable vapes and how and why people should recycle their vapes when they're finished with them. To find out more, check out the radio piece or read our blog.

ASK THE EXPERTS

Ask the Experts: George

Managing your Cardboard Waste!

Cardboard waste is likely to be found in nearly every business and managing lots of this waste can be extremely tricky. That's why we sat down with one of our waste experts, George, to learn more about how businesses can manage their cardboard more efficiently.

George's top tip for businesses dealing with lots of cardboard waste is to invest in a baler. He said: "If you’re producing a large amount of cardboard waste, a baler is the best solution. This compresses the material into bales, bounding the material together. Once you have a build-up of bales, we can then arrange for a collection. These cardboard bales can have a rebate value, making it a profitable method of recycling your waste cardboard."
