AI machines trained to recognise waste

New AI technology used at recycling sites to increase recycling rates

Over the past few years, AI has advanced dramatically and now its been utilised by the waste management industry to streamline processes at waste processing sites.

Greyparrot, a UK start-up, places cameras above conveyor belts at 50 different waste processing sites across Europe. These systems analyse the waste passing through in real time. The AI machines track 32 billion waste objects each year, creating a 'digital map' for waste. The information they collect is then passed on to manufacturers to help them design more reusable and sustainable products.

Polytag, another UK firm, has created a system to cover plastic bottles in UV tags. When the bottles reach the recycling plant, the Polytag machine will read the tags and upload the number of bottles they registered to a cloud-based app their customers can access. This gives retailers the peace of mind that their plastic bottles are in fact being recycled.

72 Hole Golf Challenge

Our team take on the 72 Hole Golf Challenge!

Next month, two members of our team, George and Ross are taking on the 72 Hole Golf Challenge! They're doing it to raise money for Age UK, not just because they want to spend the day golfing!

Why did they choose Age UK? The charity provides vital services for elderly people up and down the country. They tackle loneliness by providing advice, support and championship when people need it the most.

George, our Key Account Manager, says "I'm really excited to take part in the golf challenge and raise money for Age UK. It's a brilliant charity providing vital services to the elderly and we're really proud to be supporting them."
